Swim A Mile for Hospice is celebrating its 10th year!
This event has become a beloved event in our community. Swim A Mile is a non-competitive, open-water swim starting at Postwood Park in Hannawa Falls, NY. It’s not a race and you do not need to be a top-notch athlete to participate. Swimmers are grouped according to ability level with everyone completing the swim at her or his own pace. Some swimmers take 20 minutes; others take more than an hour, stopping to chat and dog-paddle as they move around the lake. Swimmers have ranged from 12 to 88-years old; this is an event for everyone!
Here’s how it works: swimmers can register for the event online at www.swimamileforhospice.org (or by obtaining a registration form from the Hospice Office). Once registered, swimmers are asked to raise a minimum of $100 (this includes their $25 registration fee) for their swim. Swimmers will receive a link to a crowd-funding page which they may share and raise money online. Swimmers are encouraged to get creative in raising money for their participation – host an event, find businesses to sponsor you, etc. – there’s no right or wrong way to go about it! Top fundraisers will be awarded prized for their efforts. Past prizes have included airline tickets, kayaks, bluetooth speakers and more. All swimmers who register by July 19th will be guaranteed an event T-shirt.
Not a swimmer? There are still plenty of ways to get involved! Register online to be a volunteer or join our boater safety crew!
